The car only starts for you

A small device our team installs hidden inside your car. To start the engine, you tap a secret code on your existing dashboard buttons — known only to you. Without that code, no one can drive your car — not even a thief holding your keys.

Watch it work

Three ways to start your car.

Ryan demonstrates carGuardian on a real BMW — your private PIN on factory buttons, the phone app, and an optional Bluetooth tag. Without one of them, the engine refuses to crank.

Modern theft has changed

Your factory key is the weakest part of the car

SA syndicates stopped breaking windows years ago. The modern playbook is silent, signal-based, and over in under 60 seconds. Three methods take the majority of vehicles stolen in Gauteng each month — and your factory immobiliser was designed before any of them existed.

Relay attack — two thieves amplify your factory key signal from your front door to your car so it unlocks and starts in 30 seconds Key cloning — a thief copies or mimics the signal from a vehicle key, then uses the copy as if it were the real key CAN-bus diagnostic injection — false commands sent through an access point so the car responds as if a legitimate instruction was received

carGuardian closes all three

All three methods rely on the car authenticating against the factory immobiliser — which assumes a working factory key means an authorised driver. carGuardian adds a second authentication layer that has nothing to do with the key. No PIN, no engine — regardless of what the thief brought with them.

How carGuardian works

No remote needed. A private code on the buttons your car already has. Even with a cloned key, the engine refuses to crank without it.

01

You tap your code

A private button sequence on factory buttons you already have — steering wheel, climate, radio. Only you know which buttons. Only you know the order.

· No extra hardware

02

carGuardian verifies

The unit checks the sequence locally, inside the car. The reference PIN never leaves the unit — not over RF, not over the cloud, and a dealer programmer can’t read it out of the module.

· PIN never leaves the car

03

Engine cranks

Normal start, no delay, no indicator light, nothing for anyone watching to notice. Without your code, the engine refuses — regardless of what key the driver is holding.

· No PIN · no engine

Even with a cloned key

A thief with a perfect clone of your factory key still can’t start the car. The factory immobiliser approves the key; carGuardian still requires your code. Two layers, two different secrets.

The list every syndicate works from

The cars thieves come for

The top three vehicles syndicates ask for by name — the Toyota Hilux has been SA’s most-stolen vehicle eight years running. Every one of them is on the carGuardian fitment list. Every one of them walks away locked.

Toyota Hilux fitted with carGuardian — SA's most-stolen vehicle for eight consecutive years
SAPS · #1 8 yr running
Covered

Toyota Hilux

Hilux VIII · AN120 · Hilux IX

SA’s #1 stolen vehicle every year since 2017. Targeted for cross-border resale, parts, and farm use. Every Hilux generation 2008–2026 sits on our fitment list.

Which Hilux models are covered, and how they get takenTap to seeTap to close

Generations on our fitment list

Hilux VIII (2015–2020), the AN120 facelift (2020–2026) in petrol and diesel, manual and automatic, and Hilux IX (2025–2026). Fortuner shares the platform and is covered too.

How it gets taken

  • Relay attack — push-button models. A relayed key authorises nothing; the engine still will not crank.
  • OBD key programming — every Hilux. A new key written through the diagnostic port does not start the engine.
  • Drive-away hijack — engine cuts roughly 300 m to 1 km from the scene, distance set at fitment.
  • Flatbed or tow — not prevented. That is the tracker’s job.

Ford Ranger

T5 · T6 · Raptor · P703

Push-button models are exposed to relay attack; every Ranger is exposed through the diagnostic port. T5, T6, Raptor and the next-generation P703 all covered.

How it gets taken

  • Relay attack — push-button models, principally the current P703.
  • OBD key programming — every Ranger, including blade-key models.
  • Drive-away hijack — available on some Ranger variants; we confirm which before fitting.
  • Flatbed or tow — not prevented. That is the tracker’s job.

  • Relay attack — push-button models only; blade-key cars have no signal to relay.
  • Drive-away hijack — engine cuts roughly 300 m to 1 km from the scene where the function is available.

FAQ

Common questions.

The questions buyers actually ask before they reserve — answered straight, including the limits.

Yours not here? Mail [email protected].

Does carGuardian replace my tracker? +

No, and it shouldn’t. Trackers find the car after it’s gone. carGuardian stops it leaving in the first place. Most customers run both — tracker for recovery, carGuardian for prevention.

What if I forget the PIN? +

You ring our support line. We verify your identity (the same way your bank does — ID + a code we sent on install) and walk you through a recovery PIN. Then we help you set a new one over the phone. Average call: under five minutes.

Will it void my factory warranty? +

No. carGuardian is non-destructive — no cut wires, no soldered taps, and a certified installer can remove it without trace. The vehicle’s own systems are untouched.

Will it stop a flatbed-tow theft? +

No. Flatbed theft bypasses any electronic immobiliser — that’s your tracker’s job. carGuardian + your existing tracker is the layered answer.

Will my insurer give me a discount? +

Not yet. No SA insurer has signed a discount schedule against carGuardian specifically. GotYou Telematics is an approved telematics provider with major SA underwriters; we’ll publish broker-confirmed insurers as they sign. Until then, keep your current cover.

Tow-away theft — a vehicle being loaded onto a flatbed truck at night

Integration · Tow protection

Pair carGuardian with GotYou tracking — instant tow alert

carGuardian stops the engine starting. But a vehicle can still be physically loaded onto a flatbed truck or trailer and driven away — engine off, immobiliser engaged, still gone.

When you pair your carGuardian-equipped vehicle with a GotYou tracking device, any movement while the engine is off triggers an instant tow alert. You know the moment your vehicle starts moving — even if no one ever turned the key.

  • carGuardian immobiliser engaged — engine cannot start.

  • GotYou tracker detects motion with engine off.

  • Instant alert to your phone + GotYou response team.

GotYou is a South African vehicle-tracking provider. carGuardian is engineered to work alongside any modern tracker — GotYou is the launch partner.
