Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal information we collect through carguardian.co.za and when you buy carGuardian, what we use it for, and your rights under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013 (POPIA).

1. Who is responsible

2. What we collect

• Booking requests: your name, email address and phone number; your vehicle’s make, model, year, derivative, fuel type, gearbox and start type; and your town, city, province and country.
• Enquiries: your name, email address and message. For international enquiries, also your company and country.
• Compatibility checks: the vehicle you look up, and your email address if you choose to give it.
• Purchase and fitment: payment confirmation from PayFast (not your full card details), invoice details, and the fitment record for your vehicle.
• Chat assistant: the questions you type are processed to answer them. We do not store chat conversations in our database.
• Technical information: when you send a form we record your IP address and browser type, and the country your connection comes from. We use Cloudflare Turnstile to block automated spam.

The booking form fields marked as required are needed to confirm compatibility and arrange your fitment. Without them we cannot take your booking. Everything else is voluntary.

3. Why we use it

• to confirm your vehicle is compatible, and to arrange and carry out your fitment;
• to take payment, issue invoices and pay refunds;
• to give you support, handle warranty claims and help you reset your code;
• to answer your enquiries;
• to prevent spam, fraud and abuse of this website;
• to keep the records the law requires, such as tax records.

We do not sell your personal information. We send you marketing only if you have agreed to it, and every marketing message lets you unsubscribe.

4. Who we share it with

• The trained installer who fits your vehicle: the details needed to contact you and do the fitment.
• PayFast: to process your payment.
• Our service providers, who host this website and our systems (Cloudflare) or send our email. They may only use your information on our instructions.
• Your insurer: only if you authorise it. We then share the details of your carGuardian fitment that you agree to, and you can withdraw that authorisation at any time.
• Anyone else only with your consent, or where the law requires it.

Some of our service providers store or process information on servers outside South Africa. When they do, we rely on providers that are bound to protect it to a standard comparable to POPIA, as section 72 of POPIA requires.

5. How long we keep it

We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purposes above, or for as long as the law requires, for example tax and accounting records. After that, we delete it or remove anything that identifies you.

6. How we protect it

Information is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS), and access to our systems is limited to staff who need it for their work.

7. Cookies

We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. Cloudflare may set cookies that are strictly necessary to protect this website from abuse.

8. Your rights

Under POPIA you may:

• ask whether we hold personal information about you, and for a copy of it;
• ask us to correct or delete it;
• object to us using it, including for direct marketing;
• withdraw consent you have given.

We may update this policy. The date at the top of this page shows when it last changed.
