How to stop your Toyota Fortuner being stolen
The Fortuner sits on the Hilux platform and attracts the same attention, with one difference that matters: it is usually the family car, which makes hijacking as much of a risk as theft from the driveway.
The short answer. Can a Toyota Fortuner be stolen without the key?
Yes. On push-button models a relay attack amplifies the signal from a key inside your home and starts the vehicle outside. On every Fortuner regardless of how it starts, a key programmer plugged into the diagnostic port writes a new key the factory immobiliser accepts.
Does carGuardian protect a Fortuner during a hijacking?
On both Fortuner generations, yes — our fitment data records engine shut-off over the CAN bus for this vehicle, so the engine cuts a short distance from the scene at low speed. It is not available on every vehicle we fit, but it is on this one.
Is the Fortuner the same as the Hilux for security purposes?
